The Academic Skills workshop program is a two week program designed to equip new Indigenous Australian undergraduate students with skills in Academic Writing, Essay Structure, Critical Thinking, Oral Presentation, Research Methods and Time Management skills; as well as other necessary skills essential to developing competency to assist with the first year of Academic study at the University of Sydney.
The workshop also includes an Orientation of the Koori Centre & University services. The Orientation Day gives students the opportunity to meet the Director and Staff of the Koori Centre and what roles they undertake; talk with current Indigenous students; get scholarship details; access important information about courses. Students gain an opportunity to register for services provided for Indigenous students by the Koori Centre and other centres within the University, such as: Student Services, the Student Union who provide information and answer questions students may have. A representative from Centrelink is also made available to speak to students about Abstudy.
If you are offered a place through the Cadigal Special Admissions Program, you will be required to attend the Koori Centre Orientation and Academic Skills Workshop.
All other 1st year undergraduate Indigenous Australian students who wish to attend the Koori Centre Orientation and Academic Skills workshop should contact the Cadigal Officer on 02 90366599 or email: tanya@koori.usyd.edu.au to secure a place.
